2007

2007 turned out to be a phenomenal year for us. Our ever growing wild turkey population provided us with exceptional hunting. We guided 35 hunter days and harvested 25 toms, making for our best year ever. Those numbers do not include 65 yard “hung up” toms, misses and otherwise blown opportunities. From the bird numbers we have seen during the fall and early winter, spring 2008 looks to be even better.

September goose hunting just keeps getting better. Our resident goose population keeps increasing each year. Dry conditions allowed farmers to start cutting corn earlier than normal, which is always a plus.

Heading into duck season, there were great concerns over the lack of water. Many locals had no hunting at all, as many swamps that are traditionally great hunting, were bone dry.

We were lucky in that most of our leases had water. Where there was water, there were ducks. Puddle duck hunting was very good throughout the season and when goose season reopened at the end of October, the geese were plentiful.

By mid November the diving ducks were here in force. The big water produced some of the best shoots we have ever had, and that’s saying something. We harvested more Scaup than we have taken in years, which was a huge delight to have them back in such numbers. Goldeneyes were abundant. It only got better as the season wore on. By the seasons end, it was unanimous that 2007 was the best season that we had ever had. We can tell you about it, but a picture is worth a thousand words.
