This past year turned out to be one of our better ones.
Our turkeys just keep getting stronger. We ended May with 48 guided
turkey hunts, (seven of them being bow hunters), and harvested 30 toms.
Not bad by any standards.
September goose hunting started off tough. It rained four - five days a week all summer long. As of September 1st, many of our best farms had not even taken off the first cutting of hay, much less started cutting corn. By a week or so into it, things started to turn around and the remainder of early goose season finished up pretty strong. October was average. Our swamps produced good shooting and we were able to easily deliver for our early duck season parties. By the time we reopened on October 25th, the migrant geese had to be the thickest we have ever seen them. We were able to coast through the remainder of November and December without a hitch. We turned our first diver shoot on November 2nd and the geese and puddle ducks were plentiful throughout. We saw some of the best field shooting on ducks that we have ever had, thanks to a late corn harvest on some farms that we lease. All in all, it was a pretty good year. Some of our best shoots, we never took a picture of, but here’s a few shots of some that we did.
