December Hunts

By early December, we hope that the inland waters are completely frozen out.  This concentrates all remaining waterfowl on the big water marshes of the River and Lake.  The number of hunters is few, the weather conditions can be frigid, and the rewards can be great.  If you like to shoot fat, red-leg Canadian Mallards and Black Ducks, come late.

What a shoot. Classic duck hunting.

Late season, big water.

Some folks like good duck shooting.  Some people prefer geese. Some people like both.

Goldeneyes are tree cavity nesters, and have excellent eye sight.  They don't care to mix with other birds except for other Goldeneyes.  These facts have pushed us to make our own decoys for hunting these ducks.  The jury still out as to how they work.

The boys from Michigan, back for another subzero December outing!

Mallards, Blacks & Goldeneyes.  By late morning the ducks were flaring off all the empty shotgun shells piled up on the shore! A good time was had by all. 12-04-03.

8:15 am. - Jim, are you sure that this is where you saw the geese yesterday?

9:00 am. - Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the place!
