Fall 2005

9/10. Sunny and still but we made the best of it. There were quite a few birds using the field. Still kind of seems like summer.

9/23. These geese "didn't see this coming."

9/25. Still a lot of local geese, but we think there's some newcomers around. Looks like this was the "Last stop"

10/08. Opening of Duck - The Moeller Boys, "packing it in" at around 7:45.

10/09. St. Lawrence Co. Wood Ducks.

10/13. Newly flooded just this year. This spot's going to be a "Honey"!

10/16. The Guy Gang working for some beaver pond woodies and mallards.

10/21. Dave Gaffney & Co. having a nice shoot at one of our favorite spots.

10/22. Goose reopens - the Brodine father and son team, had a shoot that will be hard to forget.

10/28. Colvin and Co. gave the geese, and some of our equipment, quite a "beating".

10/30. Jim and Jacob "showing off" a couple pair in that orange morning glow. That big drake that Jacob is holding must have weighed 4 pounds.

11/03. Flooded timber and big wind. There were definitely a few trees that got blown apart. I think that we only ended up with 7, but it really didn't matter. That's a great spot.

11/05. At the big swamp. It's been raining for a month now. Charlie's  party killed a dozen, but we could stand it to stop raining, any time now!

11/07. Sis and I bagged these fat, Canadian, greenheads around 9 o'clock this morning.

11/08. The boys from PA return to get spoiled some more. They started out by killing a couple dozen at an old favorite spot, with sunshine and not a breath of wind.

11/09. Wind moves birds. They killed these ducks in the morning, and by afternoon, it was blowing 40-55 out of the West. We shot some geese returning to roost and hour and a half before sunset. Once they started coming, the hunt took about 5 minutes. It was a joke.

11/10. Well, the boys think that maybe they'll head on home now, with black and blue shoulders and unrealistic ideas of what waterfowl hunting is typically like.

11/10. With Jim. The wind was still 15-25 from the N.E., with lots of geese flying. I know some guys, who's wives are going to be cooking the "BIG" goose dinner for Christmas this year!

11/19. A memorable father and daughter hunt. The birds were " all over us" for a while, landing feet from us. Great memories!

11/25. The first real cold snap. It was 9 degrees this morning. Joe and Mike killed 8 geese and 3 mallards over water.

11/26. The Henderson Harbor area produced some great shoots this year, but not many better than this one. It didn't take long, but it sure was fun while it lasted.

11/27. Back to puddle ducks today. These birds sure were beautiful, both in hand and I'm sure, on the plate.

12/02. Tom and Graham had some fun with both ducks and geese thanks to some perfect duck hunting weather. Cloudy, snow on and off, West 15 - 25.

12/05. How ya doin? What you've got there, is a bunch of big, buck Goldeneyes. There should be a law against having that much fun!

12/8 - 9 & 10. The boys from Michigan return, and the ducks know that they are in big trouble. Goldeneyes shooting as good as it gets.

12/13. It's really cooling down now. Twelve below zero last night. The H&B gang with some nice Goldeneyes.

12/14. Last day of the season. Charlie hunter H&B again. It got to -16 last night. It turned out to the be the coldest night of winter 2005-2006 as temps moderated after that. Goldeneye Heaven.

12/14. With Jim. Old buddy, Tim Furness & Co. showed up for their usual "last two days of the season" trip. This weather is brutal on both man and machine. Luckily, these guys are cut out for this stuff. A huge bonfire 20 yards from the blind is the only way we could "take" it. Once the smoke on the water lifted enough to see the decoys, around 11:00 am, it was "wild"!! Thousands of divers using the area made for a memorable hunt to end the season. I wish it lasted another couple of weeks!!
